Message from the Superintendent and BOE President - 2026

Welcome Back, West New York!

As we begin a new school year, I want to welcome back our incredible students, families, teachers, staff, and administrators.

There is so much to be excited about. Our students are returning to schools that have seen an investment at an unprecedented level that reflects a commitment to our facilities that West New York has never seen before, and as we continue perfecting the final details, I am incredibly proud of how far our district has come.

But what excites me the most is what comes next.

We have built a stronger foundation for our students and educators, and now we have an opportunity to dream even bigger - to inspire greater achievement, create new opportunities, and help every student discover just how much they are capable of accomplishing.

To our students: challenge yourselves, ask questions, try something new, support one another, and never place limits on where your education can take you.

We have built the foundation. Now, together, it is time to reach new heights.

Welcome back, West New York. I cannot wait to see what we accomplish together this year!

Dear West New York Families,

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I want to welcome you and share how excited I am for the year ahead. Our schools are stronger when we work in partnership with our families, and I am grateful for the trust, support, and engagement you bring to our community. As a mother and as someone who grew up and attended school here in West New York, I understand how meaningful it is to know that your child is being given opportunities to learn, explore, and discover what is possible. This year, we are especially excited to open new doors for our students through our partnership with NASA, providing opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world exploration, science, technology, and innovation. We have also made significant investments in our school facilities to ensure that our students have safe, welcoming, and comfortable environments where they can focus on learning, growing, and achieving their goals.

We are also proud to introduce a brand-new K–8 mathematics curriculum centered on problem-based learning. Rather than simply memorizing procedures, students will be encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, make connections, explain their reasoning, and apply mathematics to meaningful problems. This approach will help our students build not only strong mathematical skills, but also the critical thinking, perseverance, creativity, and problem-solving abilities they will need throughout their education and beyond.

I look forward to partnering with you throughout this exciting year. Your involvement matters, and together we can create an educational experience that challenges our students, inspires their curiosity, and helps every child recognize their own potential. Thank you for being an essential part of the West New York Public Schools community. I am excited about what we will accomplish together and, most importantly, about the opportunities we will create for our students.

With pride and optimism,

Clara Brito Herrera
