Superintendent's Message 2025

WELCOME BACK!

Dear Staff, Parents, and Students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year in the West New York Public Schools! As Superintendent, I look forward to working closely with our community to continue providing an excellent education for every child in West New York.

With great pride, I share that the West New York School District has earned the distinction of being recognized as a High Performing School District by the New Jersey Department of Education. This distinction reaffirms our commitment to providing every child with a high-quality education and preparing them to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Our schools proudly reflect the rich culture and diversity of our town, where minorities are the majority. This unique environment allows students to learn from one another, embrace differences, and grow together into thoughtful, well-rounded individuals prepared for success in today’s world. Having grown up and attended public schools right here in West New York, I know firsthand how powerfully our surroundings and our neighbors shape who we become.

At the heart of our district is a commitment to meaningful, high-quality learning. Our dedicated teachers challenge students with a rigorous curriculum designed to help them reach their fullest potential. At Memorial High School, career-focused academies ensure that students are empowered to embrace their futures.

We also recognize the vital role of technology in 21st-century learning. Every student has access to a Chromebook, and new technological trends in education. These tools, combined with our focus on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.), prepare our students for the opportunities and challenges of a digital future.

Education extends beyond the classroom, and parents are essential partners in this journey. As a mother myself, I understand the challenges families face, but I also know the incredible difference parental involvement makes in a child’s success. I encourage you to stay engaged by attending parent meetings and sharing your voice in our district. Together, we can ensure that our children thrive.

Looking ahead, my vision for the West New York School District remains clear: advancing student achievement, strengthening parent and staff collaboration, and celebrating the cultural richness that makes our community so special. Working side by side, we will continue to achieve excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

I am confident that the 2025–2026 school year will be another successful and inspiring year for our students. Thank you for your trust, your support, and your dedication to our schools.
With pride and optimism,

Clara Brito Herrera
