Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Educating our children in a
safe and secure environment where students are comfortable to learn
remains our top priority. In conjunction with providing our children
with the best possible education and assisting students in becoming
life-long learners, it is of the utmost importance that the school and
the home work collaboratively and cooperatively for the successful
development of well-rounded and responsible individuals.
The 21st century has ushered in new ideas and strategies that are being implemented within the classroom to assist student learning. These ideas and strategies incorporate the bedrocks of education; science and math, and now combine these disciplines with specialized educational programs in such areas as technology, engineering and the arts. The careful and skillful merging and implementation of these subject areas; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics is more commonly referred to as S.T.E.A.M. S.T.E.A.M. permits these important educational content areas to be presented to students in a new and refreshing manner that is definitely hands-on with its student-led and student-centered approach.
Our student body ranges from Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade. Each grade level is equally important in establishing every student’s academic foundation for learning. The primary grades are responsible for establishing the solid base on which all future learning will build upon. The upper grades permit students to expand and broaden their thinking and learning while implementing the academic skills they have mastered.
Public School Number 3 has been able to offer students after school programs in mathematics and language arts. Computer Coding and CSI Science Forensics are also after school programs that are available to students. In helping to create the well-rounded student, Public School Number 3 is pleased to present students with the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as: intramural sports like volleyball and basketball, instrumental music and chorus, drama and peer leadership.
Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) shares the same vision as that of our educators. In association with teachers and with special consideration and care, the PTO has been able to sponsor such events as: book fairs, plant sales, and other activities for our students.
Public School Number 3 has a deep history of participating in worthwhile community activities as well as to charitable organizations. During the holiday season, local food pantries and Toys For Tots are just two of the charitable groups that the P.S. Number 3 PEER students are happy to assist. School food drives were also established to help those in states and countries that suffered losses due to natural disasters like hurricanes. Participation in activities such as these allows our students to learn life lessons and helps in creating that well-rounded and responsible person.
Public School Number 3 looks forward to creating new parent relationships as well as maintaining and expanding upon those that have already been established and our monthly parent meetings provide for that opportunity. With parents and teachers working together, we are sure to have another outstanding and successful year at Public School Number 3.
