Fruit and Vegetables Program at PS#1
P.S.#1 has been selected to participate in the special
Fresh Fruits and
Vegetable Program (FFVP) for the 2011-2012 school
year. The NJ
Department of Agriculture has awarded this program
to only 141
schools throughout the state. This program is seen as an important
catalyst for change in the efforts to combat childhood obesity by
helping children learn more healthful eating habits. The FFVP
introduces school children to a variety of produce that they
otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.
In keeping with P.S.#1's involvement with
The Alliance for a
Healthier Generation, we are excited to have been
awarded this grant to provide our P.S.#1 School children with
healthy, nutritious foods. Our vision is to help facilitate our
children's consumption of fruits and vegetables, create a healthier
school, promote wellness, and change children's diets to impact
their future health.
