Welcome to the Harry L. Bain School
Principal's Message
We hope that when parents’ guardians and grandparents walk through
the doors of HLB School they will feel welcomed and proud to be part
of our school family. Providing a safe and nurturing environment
with high expectations and a positive attitude has always been the
goals of our HLB staff.
Because we leave “no child behind,” HLB offers opportunities for
every child to learn. Curriculum programs include Bilingual,
Special Education, Speech Therapy, Basic Skills, World Languages,
Instrumental Music, Technology, and more. Extended day programs are
available for grades 1-6 in the areas of Language Arts and
Mathematics. These classes are held weekly on Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday.
Our “Rainbows” Extended Day Program is well on its way. Our
“Rainbows” Facilitators meet with select students in very small
groups and help them cope with death, divorce or any other losses
that they may have experienced. Our Social worker will also be
conducting extended day sessions for our students on topics such as
Anger Management, Self-Esteem, Changing Families and other social
issues.
Assemblies are held whereby students are offered the opportunity to
experience and explore the area of Performing Arts. Our Music
Teacher offers chorus and band to those students who are
interested.
Open access to the computer lab is available to students before and
after school on select days, and also library during the school day.
Lets’ not forget our new science and computer lab opened last
school year. We are also extremely happy to announce the opening of
our brand new redesigned school library with an additional 25 new
computers schedule to open this school year.
Harry L. Bain has established an Intervention and Referral Service
Team designed to assist students who are experiencing learning,
behavior or health difficulties. This
I & RS team plans and delivers intervention and referral services to
aid students in the general education program as well as determining
if students are in need of special education programs.
Also housed in our school is a “Child Study” Team, composed of an
interdisciplinary group or professional consisting of a School
Social Worker, a School Psychologist, and a Learning Disability
Teacher-Consultant. The Child Study Team accepts referrals from
parents, teachers and other professionals who believe a student may
have a disability that adversely impacts his/her ability to learn.
Here at Harry L. Bain School we practice an open-door policy and
welcome parental participation. Monthly parent meetings will be
held through our Title I program. Back to School Night and Open
House will be held for parents in September and October.
Information regarding parent and students events is made available
to families via notices sent home with students, the district
website calendar, Connect-ed and the school marques located by the
main entrance of the building.
Our population is diversified and multi-cultural and we at Harry L.
Bain celebrate their differences and make every effort to meet the
needs of the “whole child.”
Welcome to this virtual visit of our school. A special thanks to
all the students, staff, parents, and volunteers that make our
school an exciting, warm and safe place to learn.
